Electrification is central to our mission of lowering carbon emissions and supporting a renewable energy future. Doug Tarry Homes is proud to lead the way in building fully electric homes that meet—and often exceed—Canada’s most rigorous performance standards.

Our electrification journey began in 2020 with the transformation of a hybrid CHBA Net Zero model into a fully electric home. In 2022, we completed a second all-electric model, featuring a full photovoltaic (PV) solar system and an EV charging station. In 2023, we took another step forward by integrating performance monitoring into HVAC and mechanical systems, allowing real-time tracking and optimization at the component level.

In 2024, we launched our first all-electric townhome project and opened a new model home as a pilot for Life Ark and survivable sustainability design.

A Life Ark is a home designed to provide essential life support systems during extended power outages. These include heating/cooling, balanced ventilation (HRV/ERV), electrical service for a fridge (for food and medicine), EV charging, emergency lighting, medical device support, and water service for toilets. It’s not an off-grid solution—but rather a backup-ready system powered by batteries or low-carbon energy sources. Backup could include battery storage or micro-cogeneration systems using biogas or natural gas, sufficient to run critical systems when the grid goes down.

Standard Features in Our All-Electric Homes:

  • Dettson Supreme 100% electric fully modulating system with ECM motor (sized to home)
  • Dettson UHD fully modulating cold-climate air-source heat pump (ASHP)
  • VanEE ERV160E75R with Platinum Control
  • Rheem Hybrid Electric Builder Select CPRO hot water tank
  • ENERGY STAR® bath and hood fans
  • 200-amp electrical panel
  • TEK cable from attic to mechanical room
  • Upsized truss design to support solar loads
  • Conduit and rough-in for EV charging
  • LED lighting throughout
  • Electric furnace (as backup)
  • 32-panel, 300-watt photovoltaic solar array

These features reduce greenhouse gas emissions and deliver long-term economic and health benefits through improved energy efficiency, air quality, and reduced fossil fuel dependence.

Doug Tarry Homes is setting a new benchmark in sustainable residential development—one that’s performance-driven, climate-conscious, and future-ready.
