INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CONFERENCE DRAWS FROM SEPTEMBER 11TH TO
ADDRESS DURABILITY AND SAFETY ISSUES IN HOME CONSTRUCTION
Minneapolis, MN (September 23, 2002) -- In response to the events of
September 11, World Trade Center Redevelopment team member, Carl Galioto,
AIA, will serve as keynote speaker at the opening session of the Energy
& Environmental Building Association's Excellence In Building
Conference. Galioto's topic, "The Future of Buildings: How Design
Impacts Durability", will address how the events of September 11th
have impacted the design and construction of all buildings to withstand
both natural and man-made disasters; and the nexus between design,
energy efficiency and durability.
This marks the 20th anniversary of the conference which runs from
October 9-12 at the Sheraton Phoenix East Hotel in Mesa, Arizona. It is
the industry's oldest educational venue focusing on the house as a
system for better building performance. The 2002 conference will be the
largest in the history of the organization.
"The EEBA conference brings together the leading experts to
provide the information the industry needs to improve the performance of
new and existing homes", notes conference chair, Randall Foltz,
Vice President, Pulte Homes SW. "Improved home durability and
performance is a win-win for consumer, builder, mortgage companies and
realtors, Foltz continues. "Homes are more affordable, safer, and
more energy and resource efficient."
The 4-day conference attracts an international audience of builders,
manufacturers, architects, designers, realtors and code officials with
over 100 educational sessions and hands-on demonstrations. An exhibit
area provides attendees with an opportunity to learn more about product
and service advancements.
Other activities within the conference schedule include the US
Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star builder awards, a Habitat
for Humanity building blitz with Masco Corporation's Contractor
Services/Environments For Living initiative, and the US Department of
Energy's Building America/Houses That Work Consumer Education Programs
hosted by Home Depot and Pulte Homes SW.
The EEBA Excellence in Building conference is sponsored in part by
the US EPA's Energy Star Program, US Department of Energy's Building
America Program, Andersen Corporation, The Home Depot, Fannie Mae, and
MASCO Environments for Living.
The Energy & Environmental Building Association is an
