EEBA Certified Trainer
As
Research Project Manager, Duncan is researching the widespread local
implementation of higher performance homes using Building America
research results, in conjunction with home energy rating providers and
green building programs. This research is focused on the process related
barriers that are institutionalized in most builders’ organizations,
with the goal of creating new process models for builders in five key
areas: integrated design process; construction documents and purchasing
processes; trade skill training, certification, and verification;
building performance, and financial and operational measurement systems;
and marketing and consumer education.
Duncan also works with community developers to establish a process by
which higher performance housing can be implemented by a number of
builders throughout a master planned community. Additionally, he is the
program manager of a research program involving onsite power generation
systems, including fuel cells and evaluating community scale power
generation strategies.
Lastly, Duncan communicates research results to IBACOS clients and
the market through industry presentations and publications. Duncan,
formerly a partner of Spectrum Design Collaborative, LLC, specializes in
residential and commercial building design and construction management,
building performance issues including energy, moisture and air transport
within residential and commercial buildings, building science training,
and project management. Duncan is a registered architect and earned a
Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree and a Bachelor’s of Architecture degree
from Rhode Island School of Design.
