Steve BadenSteve Baden is Executive Director of RESNET and has worked in the residential energy efficiency field for over twenty five years, including eighteen years with home energy ratings and energy mortgages on both the state and national levels, and ten years administering a state energy office. Mr. Baden initiated the "Warm Homes for Alaskans Initiative" which received the "1993 National Award for the Most Outstanding State Housing Program" from the National Council of State Housing Agencies. Steve was also awarded "Lifetime Achievement Awards" from the U.S. Department of Energy and RESNET. S. BakerBio C. BarbourBio R. BroadBio M. CarlinerBio Gord CookeGord Cooke is a professional engineer, trainer, author and industry consultant, he has been an effective and passionate educator and advocate for better building practices, improved indoor air quality and energy efficiency during the past two decades. Gord has also pioneered new training programs designed to assist builders in the sales and marketing of higher performing, energy efficient homes – helping builders more effectively tell their story to customers and sell more homes. GohmanBio Tony GrahameBio Sara GuttermanBio Stephen KlossnerSteve Klossner is president of Advanced Certified Thermography and has served as one of the national consultants to the health house project since its 1993 inception. His firm has provided testing services for over 10,000 homes across the country, including studies for universities, utilities, state agencies and health departments. He provides training and seminars on indoor air quality and building diagnostics nationally, sharing his extensive experience in combining building science, performance testing and indoor air quality testing. Steve co-authored the Health House performance standards and is currently coordinating the development of a national training program for site inspectors and standards verification testing, as well as developing broad based testing protocols for the residential market. M. LaFranceBio M. LynchBio Joe LstiburekJoe Lstiburek, Ph.D., P.E., is a principal of Building Science Corp. in Westford, MA. He has twenty five years of experience in design, construction, investigation, and building science research. Joe is an ASHRAE Fellow and an internationally recognized authority on indoor air quality, moisture, and condensation in buildings. BSC is one of the Building America teams that provide technical assistance to trade contractors. Eric MakalaEric has over 20 years of experience in working with both residential and commercial building energy efficiency particularly in the area of building energy codes. He has a national reputation for his expertise on building energy codes for both residential and commercial buildings. He is often consulted by industry on issues dealing with new construction practices and their acceptance with the energy code. Since 1986 he has trained or presented on energy codes in over 22 states with sessions focused on residential and commercial building energy codes. The majority of these have been directed at the enforcement industry teaching local building department personnel how to plan check and inspect to ensure compliance. Eric has a BA degree in Environmental Studies from Sonoma State University and an MA in Education from California State University, Sacramento. Vernon McKownVernon McKown is Co-owner and President of Sales at Ideal Homes of Norman LLC, founded in 1991. Vernon has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma and is a graduate of Leadership Norman. He was recently named in the Metro Journals “40 Under 40” as on of the forty future leaders in Oklahoma City under the age of forty. He is currently serving on the Economic Development Committee for the Norman Chamber of Commerce. Tex McLeodTex is one of Canada’s leading presenters of housing information specializing in building healthy, energy efficient homes. His experience in designing, developing and delivering training across North America has given him insight into the many challenges facing the builders and renovators. He travels the country for a variety of clients delivering workshops on topics as diverse as Insulated Concrete Forms to Indoor Air Quality. Tex is a builder, project manager, trainer and communicator with over twenty five years of practical experience in the housing industry. He is a recognized authority on energy efficient construction, healthy housing and renewable energy technologies. Tex is also a past EEBA board member. Andy OdingAndrew Oding is the Manager of Product Development for Reid’s
Heritage Homes in Southwestern Ontario. F. PageBio Duncan PrahlDuncan Prahl is a registered architect responsible for managing IBACOS’ Building America research activities from advanced systems through community scale implementation of high performance homes with builders. He has over twenty years experience in residential and commercial design and applied building science, construction management, builder training and research. David PriceDavid Price is an indoor air specialist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. His focus is air pollution issues relating to housing, and the impacts of construction methods and materials. He works with numerous product manufacturers, building scientists, trade associations, builders and health professionals in developing technical guidance for EPA. He also draws on his experience as a general contractor Dave provides technical guidance to the construction community on a range of issues and has developed technical guides such as EPA’s Radon-resistant New Construction Standards. In 2004 he drafted the technical specifications for the Agency’s new Indoor Air Quality Label for new homes, and is currently developing a technical guidance document that offers home builders, architects and others detailed information on materials and methods to address indoor air quality and durability in every phase of home construction. David is currently representing EPA on the ANSI National Green Building Standard Committee. J. ProctorBio Coming Soon Sam RashkinSam Rashkin has managed ENERGY STAR for Homes since its start in 1996. Under his leadership, ENERGY STAR for Homes has grown exponentially to more than 4,500 builder partners and over a half a million labeled homes. He is also introducing a new EPA Indoor Air Quality label for the housing industry linked to ENERGY STAR Qualified Homes. Sam received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University; completed Masters of Urban Planning studies at New York University; and is a registered architect in California and New York. During his 20 plus years as a licensed architect, he specialized in energy efficient design and completed over 100 residential projects. He has served on the national Steering Committees for USGB’s LEED for Homes, NAHB’s Green Builder Guidelines, and US EPA’s Water Sense label. Sam has prepared hundreds of articles, technical papers, reports, and seminars; and contributed to numerous books covering a wide variety of energy topics. Scott SedamScott Sedam is President of TrueNorth Development. He is former executive for Pulte Corporation and past examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and judge for the National Housing Quality Award, authors the provocative column “Lessons Learned” in Professional Builders magazine. In the forefront of the building industry’s quality revolution since the early 90’s Scott focuses on process improvements that increase profitability while improving customer satisfaction. His recent LeanBuilding Blitz cost reduction process is attracting attention as one of the first successful forays into Lean Manufacturing in the residential homebuilding industry. Daran WastchakDaran Wastchak is the President of D.R. Wastchak, L.L.C., a firm based in Tempe, Arizona which specializing in residential energy efficiency and building science consulting. He has been a key implementer of the EPA’s Energy Star for Homes program in the Phoenix market since 1996, first with the Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University, then with D.R. Wastchak, L.L.C since its founding in 1999. In addition to articles which have appeared in Home Energy magazine and the Arizona Journal of Real Estate and Business, Daran is a guest lecturer at Arizona State University; Scottsdale, Yavapai and Gateway Community Colleges; and the Arizona School of Real Estate. Daran has also given presentations at the annual conferences for the Energy and Environmental Building Association (EEBA), Affordable Comfort, Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), and Scottsdale Green Buildings Conference. Daran serves on the RESNET Board of Directors. Justin WilsonJustin Wilson is President of Building Performance Solutions, a Colorado based building science consulting firm. Justin specializes in advanced energy efficient building practices, high performance process integration and implementation, building durability analysis, mechanical systems design and integration, and job site inspections and trainings. Justin develops educational curriculum and presents to developers, builders and industry professionals; these diverse audiences have included the US Green Building Council, Built Green Colorado, Big Builder, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and many others.
